Traffic domains are easy to sell, but harder to acquire.
Expired .coms with verifiable stable traffic over the past 3 months and historical stats of 6-12 months typically trade for 26-30x monthly parking revenue. For example, a domain making $100 a month is worth $2600 at 26x, but multiples are increasing!
When buying domains you can typically expect to receive discounts when buying large amounts of domains. e.g. 100,000$ upwards and always ask if ‘cherry picking’ is possible i.e. selecting those domains you are most interested in.
Note: It is usual for traffic to drop after the first 3 months as backlinks (the sites linking to your domain) and position in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) decrease.
Expired .coms with declining traffic trade for 14-18x monthly parking revenue as these are considered past their ‘best before’ date.
The sweet spot is domains earning between $10 and $40 a month. Domains earning significantly more than this e.g. 200$ a month are inherently riskier to hold as if the advertising partner decides that they no longer wish to provide advertising, or if you receive a domain name dispute (e.g. UDRP) you are at risk of losing all the revenue. Whilst domain fail listing typically affects less than 5% of a user’s domains, the reasons for fail listing include traffic quality concerns, both past and present.
Expired ngTLDs with verifiable stable traffic over the past 3 months and historical stats of 6-12 months typically trade for 12-16x monthly parking revenue. E.g. a domain making $100 a month is worth $1600 at 16x. The lesser valuation is correlated to the higher-than-average usage of ngTLDs for Malware/spam.
The exceptions are .io and .co which trade at higher-than-average prices and whilst technically ccTLDs, they are not used as such.
Expired ccTLDs with verifiable stable traffic over the past 3 months and historical stats of 6-12 months typically trade for 16-24x monthly parking revenue. E.g. a domain making $100 a month is worth $2400 at 24x.
Europe’s most populous countries with the healthiest economies & healthiest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) have the greatest domain value (highest monthly multiples) and the greatest CPC price e.g. Germany, UK, Spain, Netherlands, Italy etc.
Whilst .pl and .in trade at lower multiples due to lower than average CPCs.
An exception to this rule is Russia, as currently no major parking providers have a Yandex feed.
Expired ccTLDs with declining traffic trade for 6-14x monthly parking revenue as these are considered past their best before date.
The multiple for generic domains with traffic is circa 20 – 30 years parking revenue.
